This painting reflects my exploration of Pop Art, blending humor, critique, and visual storytelling. At its center is the iconic Israeli charity box — once a symbol of nation-building and renewal, it has over time become associated with opportunism: “taking instead of giving.”
Through these objects, I explore the tension between old and new, masculine and feminine, American glamour and Jewish shnorr. The work reinterprets everyday objects, critiques consumer culture, and reflects social and political realities, creating a dialogue between nostalgia, contemporary life, and Pop Art aesthetics.
A few years ago, the art critic Doron Braunstein gave me the wonderful title:
“If Warhol were an Israeli woman…”
Truly the best compliment I could have received.
This vision led me to further investigate the symbolic power of objects and their cultural narratives. In this series, everyday items are transformed into vessels for memory, commentary, and reflection, highlighting both the glamour and irony embedded in our material culture.
