If Warhol were an Israeli woman.

When I studied at Bezalel, in my first year, one of my teachers told me that my sense of color was American, not sophisticated, vulgar and flat. At first I was insulted but a few years later I realized that it is pop-art and that’s so me!

For the last two decades I have been creating while Warhol is my inspiration, paying tribute to Oldenburg (who sadly passed away a few weeks ago), Lichtenstein and Jeff Koons. I create and respond to the abundance that exists, wallowing in heaps of shiny plastic and leftover daily objects. Today I am not ashamed of my popular colorfulness and concepts. On the contrary! I know it’s my tool to convey playfulness and messages.

Two years ago, in a book published by the art critic Doron Brounstein, he gave me the wonderful title “If Warhol were an Israeli woman”, which was the greatest compliment ever!

I first painted Popeyit on March 2020, International Women’s Day. 

Popeyit is a new persona combining the forces of both Olive Oyl & Popeye into a new whole. She is a feminine piece of art and a female activist that empowers us to believe in our inner strength. She is authentic, sometimes vulnerable and spineless and sometimes the strongest believer. 

While creating her I discovered the other Popeyes, the ones that Warhol, Lichtenstein and Koons created  –  All were men who dealt with the male image until a woman came along!
